GERALD GARCIA

'Anyone interested in hearing the guitar at its best should put Gerald Garcia at the top of their list,' wrote the maestro John Williams with whom Gerald toured China in a duo in 1995. After studying chemistry at Oxford University, Gerald Garcia made his debut at the Wigmore Hall in London where a critic hailed him as a 'performer of rare quality'. Since then he has appeared at all the main festivals in Britain, including Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Cheltenham and the South Bank; he has toured Europe and the Far East, and broadcast extensively on radio and television all over the world. He has also given recitals with many leading ensembles, soloists and actors including the London Sinfonietta, the Chilean group Quimantu, Paco Pena, Richard Baker and Leo McKern.

In addition to making live appearances everywhere from Borneo to the Arctic Circle, Gerald has recorded more than 12 CDs which have sold over 40,000 copies worldwide. He has composed music for film and stage, and is also very busy as a session musician who has worked with such diverse talents as Michel Legrand, Barbara Streisand, Larry Coryell and Wayne Shorter. He also teaches regularly and does educational work with the English National Opera and the Kent Opera.

Gerald Garcia lives in Oxford where he enjoys cooking, computer music, Taoist Yoga and 'conducting the odd chamber orchestra'.
